love of distance
A man looks out his window and sees a woman from a distance. Beautiful, he thinks. The soft imperceptible gaze at which he seeks after this visage brings a fleeting sense of irrepressible longing and restlessness. His mind upturns itself and the deceitful colors of imagination bring fearful thoughts of vague emotions turning themselves into love of tenderness. The long silky fingers of beauty find their grips upon this man's collar and upon demystifying his fear and understanding the sophistry in shyness, he approaches the young woman. However, as he gets closer, he is disgusted as this woman is ugly as sin; the scent of cigarettes and alcohol drips from her sleeves. Reproachful, the man takes his steps back and fades back into the remnants of his window watching, again restarting the cyclic longing and heart drenching warmth from a distance.
A woman sits at a cafe and sees a man from a distance. Handsome, she thinks. The vague qualities of honor and class could be drawn out from this distant image. Thinking deeply upon her desires and her needs, she accommodates herself to consider the possibilities of this man. The constant repercussions of emptiness and longing for love claw at this woman's heart and drenched in this loneliness, finds the immediate desire to call out to this man. But she sits. When she looks once more at the distance in which the man resides, she sees him drawing near, coming closer to where she sits. But to her utter disgust, she sees the cloth of honor being stripped away, revealing a somewhat normal man, and subsequently, a despicable creature. Dreary eyed and uninterested, she turns her cheek as the man fades away as well. As her pretense of longing turns into the vagrant wisp of which it was before, she looks solemnly at the many men peering at her beauty, waiting once more for their approach.
A bystander sees two figures, separated by a distance. These two figures, a man and a woman as it seems, gaze at each other. They immediately fall in love with the distance between them. But as understanding, the clever ironic holy ghost of emotions, and self-entitlement, the secret lover of pride and silent accuser of humility, slowly collapses this wall of distance between these two figures, imagination gives way to reality. Being stripped of the comfort of imagination, both are overwhelmed by unpleasant feelings of self-righteousness and false worth. They fade back, and once more they seek after the lovely distance between themselves. And thus they remain alone.
