Discourse on Emotion Pt. 2

Pride&Humility

These days I've been having trouble trying grasp sincerity, and who I am. Basically being true to my self and being real. I feel like if I was truly true to myself, I would only be more selfish, more prideful, and just an asshole. A lot of me trying to be accommodating sometime feels like an extra effort. The more and more I do my own character analysis I see myself more flawed and twisted. In some senses, a part of me pushes me so hard to become some image driven by a fabricated realness that some parts of my personality turn into wisps, listless hollow shells floating around in the vast realm of forgotten personality. And I suppose that bothers. I suppose thats why there are so many sides to me. And I suppose that's why I'm conflicted.

But being real, it's humility. At least a part of it. It only makes sense, because its counterpart, pride, only deceives the heart of its true nature. That's the center point of pride: deception. It's a mask I adorn to create my balance on how I perceive everything, especially other people. I practically place the pivot point of the entire world in my head and see through those twisted eyeglasses, and in the end, I only deceive myself. And in relation to myself and how I act and think, it makes absolutely perfect sense.

In order to reconcile with myself, and who I actually am, I first need to humble myself. That's when I'll set those foundations upon which I support my ethos. They say that angels fly because they have no pride. And we humans on the other hand, are as grounded as can be. The pride weighs us down.

Finding change to become a better person is difficult. But I know one thing for sure. It's humility that drives the heart for that desire to find good and fix the wrongs. I'm so happy that my friends could find that.

It's always human tendency to see oneself first. It's always been. If in any case I must grow up, it must be to become selfless in my desires and find upmost humility in my thoughts and actions.

I want to live for something greater than myself.
I wish I could live up to the thoughts I think.

I have

nothing meaningful to say.
It's that feeling when you feel yourself being eaten away by your material self
it's draining

that's why I'm recycling old shit
but don't we all? our feelings, our thoughts?

We're supposed to live these meaningful lives, to live out our illusion of grandeur
but is that only because we can't see the pain behind it?
it's okay, I think its a sacrifice needed. Happiness is plentiful up there, finding it down here is a bit shortsighted. Nothing really lasts. I find it more romantic to chase after those dreams rather than stability.

Romantic. That's right, life should be romantic. Those little implication should mean the world, and everything everywhere should beg for an interpretation of meaning. Like the rose. ._.,

But its just a rose right? Those little actions.. They don't really mean what I think they do, or want it to, right? Eat, live, sleep, basic necessities, yeah let's study math because that's what I'm good at. Make money, marry, have kids. That went a little too far.

See, that's what life is. It's ALL in your mind. That grandeur that you imagine? It's real. Know why? Because you think its real. That pragmatic shit in your head? It's real. Know why? Because you think it is. This post is like the sparknotes for the post like two posts below. ._., recycle recycle..

The only meaning that exists is the one we create. That's why life becomes more meaningful through the details that we interact with an connect. That's why life, it's more than memories, or just remembering what fun we had, its the short bursts of feeling that we long for. The constant change and dynamics of the human heart. Ups and downs... Because the downs are what heighten the experience of the ups. Isn't that why third world countries are so much easier for missionaries? The beauty of God strikes in the mind of those who have nothing. But us middle class fuckin americans, we don't need shit. I have a laptop in front of me that could probably feed a kid till he's eighteen. But what am I doing instead? I'm fuckin writing useless shit because I'm fuckin lonely on the inside. Right now I guess.

And I think that's the basis of that ambition to succeed. Loneliness. The basis for a lot of things actually. That need for God? That want for attention? Loneliness.. I guess another way to describe it is lack of love. But the funny thing is, I've been loved a lot. Loved by friends, by family, and even God. But I suppose the problem comes through two parts: one, I can't always see that love, and two, love can only be felt through action. So even if the action is given, like how God's love is everywhere, if I can't perceive that notion of love, it's not love to me and thus no love found. So I suppose the basis to succeed is love. It's always love.

Many people have a twisted conception of love, as if its physical, or that it's everywhere. No, if love was everywhere, it wouldn't be love anymore to the people that it's around. Know why? Because we become numb to it. Just like how we can't feel the love given to us by our friends and family, because it's taken for granted. So instead, we resort to fucking saying "i love you" more and more to give some kind of impact so that it can actually mean something, or we have sex, or we cheat on each other because we don't feel enough love. Fuckin fools of love, caught under the trap, the fuckin pretense that we deserve some kind of special treatment or attention to see ourselves as "loved".

That's why God's love is so beautiful. Look at the true believers view on life. Everything is so fuckin beautiful. It may not be beautiful to other people, but it's beautiful to them because, again, the perception that exists is the perception created. It's because they become to sensitive and thankful, because they realize what they don't have and what they have and how much of what they have. The rush of details and the sudden dramatic shift in viewpoint changes everything.

But where can I find that? Right? Because as far as I can tell, it's more than just effort to try and force your personality into a direction that it's not natural to turn. Where? God? You have that power right? To override that fundamental sense of balance that has become engrained in me? So that I can become a better person than I actually am?

I hope so. Hah, what did this turn into... so ramble... i dont even know if it made sense because I dont think i was even thinking

unconfident? to think that there are better people out there.
that's wrong because on some deep deep level, we are all the same, equal in our balance, but unique in the way that our attributes shine. Thus we can always be confident in ourselves and let those attributes that we have, those few traits that we are proud of, truly shine.

yeah.. here's the conclusion.
i feel like deep down, all i want is a bit of attention. is that shallow? to be loved
but i suppose then again, its my job to be able to see that

Pretense

As long as there is some kind of preconception of a person behavior or personality, it becomes an exception for a person to act a certain way, in accordance to his outside perception. Any other sort of behavior becomes a pretense in the eyes of those who "know". Is a person so limited to being who they want to be? As college starts, to see people change is a funny thing, but is it actually a negative trait for someone to try and be who they actually want to be? As if a persons personality is engrained in stone.. A person has multiple facets to their being, but it is actually true that a person can't really change who they are on the inside. Fuck that, if I could change to be the person that I wanted to be, I would have done it a long time ago…

Deception&Sincerity

And Alcohol… why is it that alcohol has such a bad image? I mean, I think when I drink, I don't do stupid shit, but I think the stupid people just ruined it for the rest of us. Now when a church going person takes a sip of alcohol (at least in the more conservative areas) they are looked down upon. But isn't that so hypocritical? When a fellow alcohol sees a Christian drink, I don't think as much judgement goes out to that person in comparison to when a Christian sees a fellow Christian drink. Drinking, it's not bad, is it? My friends and I are just chillin'. But that judgement.. Sometimes I'm afraid of that judgement. it's an irrational fear, if I know who I am, and if Jesus knows who I am then I should be able to at according to what I know is okay. But then again, I have to huard the image of a the person everyone wants me to be. Then again… I don't know, i have to think more.

And sometimes, I'm seriously sick of pretending to care about people that I don't care about. And that perception some people think of me as, I want to change it but is that just who I really am? Is that insincere? I'm probably thinking too much, but then again, that's what makes life meaningful, the details.

Perception

Look hard enough, and there is no disorder to be seen, only order to be perceived. I disliked high school education...

But at the same time, subtle doors of opportunity unlocked themselves and a path of comfortable living unfolded. The lost beauty of innocence found greater virtues at the womb of maturity and staged fantasies became apparent realities as the mind grew accustomed to knowledge-- bracing itself for the weight of wisdom. And dreams could wait, because unlike man, they had patience. The dreams would only unfold with time. Twelve hour nights and twelve hour days meshed themselves together, each interlocking and opening each other up to a hope of a brighter tomorrow.

And thus, perception, a most celebrated figure in this day and age, lodged itself between my two eyes, becoming the bridge between his reality and cynicism. This opened up a portal to another dimension of possibilities. Thoughts could be executed, or executed; life deemed priceless, or senseless (or even doomed to be cents-less for that matter); everything beautifully damned, or damn beautiful. And it didn't stop there: the execution of thoughts would bring birth to new ideas, and kill old ones, and even in the absence of cents, some sense could be used to ensure some sort of change. And who’s to say the beautifully damned and damn beautiful aren't the same? The only reality that exists is the perception created.

Listen carefully. I can hear the soft rain outside, coming from the television static. I can hear the sound of the ocean, resonating from the highway. Is that the silence screaming, or is it singing? It’s all there; I just have to look deeper into something that’s not there, or perhaps just hidden. I just have to take a step back and look at my situation differently.

Chapter I

The sun sets for me. I am the epitome of definition, every act or move I make is delivered with exacting precision, conveyed with absolute faultlessness. My ideals of beauty, love, death, and life are the only ideals; the rest cease to exist at my whim. I breathe life because I am, life flows in my veins because I am, life will never cease to be, because I will never cease to be.

It was raining. The rain was surreal.
In life, everything, all the minor details in life that are so easily looked over, the imperfections that contradict the very nature of perfection itself, breathe with meaning and purpose. Only a couple hours ago, I had been blissful; only until I realized that I was a mark of nonexistence, a mere scratch on the marble slate of essence did I actually breathed the air of actuality.
Who am I? I am in an eternal state of morning, living life as it came to me, like a leaf brought down by the graces of nature to silt down through the wet, sublime, sovereign air, only to modestly sulk and travel alongside the sidewalk into a gutter, left to coexist with all the other rotten filth of society. Somewhat like a fallen angel, I thought. After all, even a falling leaf was obligated to represent meaning and order.
I lifted my face towards the sky and felt the reassuring sting of existence as the rain slapped upon my face. The rain. God’s pebbles of scorn perhaps, all guided down by the compelling pull of structure, all consenting to the compliance of order. Raindrops were conformists themselves; only aligning themselves to the composition of what nature allows them to be; falling, resonating in puddles on the cold concrete for the ephemeral moment of being, then rising up again only to be brought down by destiny. Order says so; a raindrop only has one fate: to fall from the sky and shatter.
I turn my face away from epiphany and look towards reality once more. My coat, drenched, sags under the weight of sorrow and misery.
They must be God’s tears then, I thought with a chuckle. The scornful, miserable, tears of heaven glistened on my palm. With a quick flick of my wrist, they fan out into empty space, captured in that evanescent moment of being with bearing and elegance. I hold out my hand once more indulgingly and my palm fills again with small beads of water.
“Hey!” –I hear someone calling me, and I snap my neck around. As if being woken from a dream, I turn to face a tenement building, its refuse in its cracks evident still, even with the downpour struggling to crawl down and clean the façade, stopping every once in a while at the grime that entrenched itself into the creaks of every brick and mortar in between.
“Hey! What in God’s name are you doing?” At that question, I stopped.
What was I doing? I was simply catering to the moment, the dream that I have long since yearned for. A long exasperated sigh escapes from my clenching teeth from the bottom of my stomach.

I took three steps back to the tenement building, seemingly losing faith with every step I took. One. As my foot hits the ground, someone in the distance, a ghastly figure, turns to face me. Whether he notices me or not, whether he matters to me or not in my interest, whether or not I need to know him does not occur to me, so I ignore him. Two, the ashen figure, floats, as if it acknowledges my presence yet heeds me to ignore it. I took my third. It was twisted, and from the looks of it, its tendons and rippling muscles gripped its skin tight. The gilded aura I felt overtook my conscience. I felt the world in these three steps, the world slumped itself on my shoulders and although I was still strongly standing, the sheer weight buckled my knees, beckoning me to collapse, so that it could laugh at me. I found it quite interesting that my palms were already pressed hard against the ground. By my fourth step, I was completely engulfed in certainty, coming face to face with the distinct glare of reality. Those icy, piercing eyes, eyes that could make any man drop to his knees, eyes that cut the veins of a new dawn, eyes that held gripped the heart of even the most fearless man in its iris. And those teeth, the very gnashing teeth I remember hearing about during bible study, teeth that could chew on the souls of man, teeth that never hunger, yet feeds a mouth that is never satisfied.

*                                  *                                  *

I glance down at my watch. It was an old thing, passed down through my family for generation after generation. Raindrops fell and exploded in their tiny existence on the glass. I couldn’t see the time too clearly. I wiped the rain off to see the time, and noticed a scratch, a seemingly minor detail, traveling from the nine to the five. I could deal with it, it wasn’t deep big anyhow. I had reached my home, and as much as I hated to call it so, it was my identity, my belonging. I was only ten yards away from the entrance to start with anyhow. I pushed the rotting door open, its hinges squealing, as if they too, were tired of life.
“You idiot, are you trying to catch a cold?” That was my brother.
“Hm.” He couldn’t even steal a glance. My mind was elsewhere.
My brother, quickly lost interest and muttered something, “…fucking rain, goddamn weather forecaster couldn’t read a chart if it…”
He was always muttering complaints. Always bitter yet never willing to break loose from the manacles of society. He was two years younger than me. As much as I loathed his personality, his complaints, his three-in-the-morning-calls asking me to pick him up at the on the corner of fifth and Alhambra, his complaints, he eventually became a part of me, like a leech or tumor that lodged itself into my heart. My existence wasn’t quite complete without him. I scoff at very thought of it. My existence.
I ponder about life.
As I took of my shoes, I imagined an aerial view of my life, from birth to death, the shallow graze on the intricate plane of life, falling in line with the many other blemishes, at times intersecting with others.
With some effort, I pulled off a boot from a foot, and peeled away a sock, leaving a damp, pale, shriveled foot in sight. I threw the leather boot off to the side. It tumbled and fell on its side, leaving a trail of water dripping out at the entrance.
Then I envisioned the lives the greats, Napoleon, Roosevelt, Caesar, Alexander the Great, Ghandi; deep gashes, leaving almost a wound, a gaping chasm upon the grand face of time.
The other boot came off with a tug and I shivered, realizing how cold the rain was. It was a pity the furnace broke last week.
I thought about the differences between lay between I, the meager pond scum of society, writhing aimlessly and barely scourging on dirt, and those who are remembered, the people we read about in those useless history books, showing pictures of their stone gazes peering into the future with that look of excellence, iron images coexisting in the past, future and present.
The difference lay in this: they lived, I existed.

learning one another

Alright, I just read what I wrote, and I sound awfully sad, and yeah sometimes I'm sad, but
I suppose its just the multiple dimensions of someone, or me that I see within me.
Does that make sense?

Anyways, what I actually had to say:
It would be boring to be in a world of perfect understanding..
I suppose most of the fun of getting to know someone, is the time it takes to understand that one person.
And through the months and months it takes to know that person, at the moment where you actually realize who that person is, and who you are, and that both of you are entirely different people not meant for each other, I suppose that's when the connection stops.
If everyone knew exactly who each other was and found their perfect match right off the bat, we would be in these old, tired relationships from the very start, no?

Discourse on Emotion Pt. I

Happiness, love, &lack thereof both.

Is the human heart trained to succumb to weaker emotions? Trained to love these weaker emotions when the emotions of strength seem so distant? There are times when depression itself, that loathsome feeling of intense loneliness and lung-crushing despair, becomes sweet and suddenly tender. It's that same feeling when a close companion, perhaps a dog of some sort, dies by your side. That faint rush of emotions of memories spent with someone, or something that will leave with nothing but its spirit leaving behind all possessions and memories, spent with you. A bittersweet feeling? Depression is similar to a trench when one first ventures along its edges, a treacherous path of only remorse and pain, but slowly, slowly, as one falls into the trench, as fleeting emotions of joy and happiness become more and more distant, the darkness  sings to you and melancholy becomes an able companion. Perhaps not the greatest one, but something or someone to keep one company nevertheless. It's only company we want, is it not? The reassurance that someone or even something has attention to give? To you? Sometimes, we make this something up; and more times than not, times I call this friend depression. Another familiar name is Toska (thanks Candace, thanks Vladmir Nobokov).

But looking back at all the times I spent alone, I am reminded of how scared and foolish I was. Depression is not what we want. Letting yourself delve deeper and deeper into its hole is easy, easier than finding actual companions and people to talk to. The vague mirage of sweetness… It's a lie. True joy comes through others. Spending too much time alone is unhealthy. Too much time to think… even that in itself can be unhealthy. But why? I honestly don't understand why thinking, simply thinking alone, creates this pitfall of emotions. But knowing this makes it so obvious why solitude is torture, and why exclusion is detrimental to human health. Happiness, it never comes alone, it always comes with companions.

It was actually my second nature to be melancholy. This was because I slept during the day, and during the night, I spent most of my time alone, in my room. Lonely. More often than not, although it was not such an obvious feeling, the loneliness began to haunt me. The empty walls became slates of confinement, and the suffocating glare of the computer screen kept me awake, and I drowned in my self made prison, a nocturnal mind Singsing. How can one find love in that state? It becomes harder and harder to find appreciation for the things we are thankful for. And in turn, it becomes easier to spite and slander those around us.

But not with people around us. Sometimes, its because we forget about our worries, or because we have somebody to share these worries with. It's a basic necessity and definitely not one to be taken lightly. With companions these burdens of emotions seems to feel lighter because somehow, the attention we receive from them and the attention we give to them creates a sanctuary for our minds. Because for me at least, deep deep down, it was attention I wanted, love that I longed for. But for some reason, I neglected the people that were right in front of me. Yes, they were there, and I was a fool to think I was alone. I guess I can talk about it now because I feel pretty good about myself, maybe sometimes dipping into a minor ditch, but I'm good.

This is my I'm thankful for my friends and family.

And yes, there's no joy without the pain, and no truth without the shame. This I know. I can feel the joy only because I felt the pain... But sometimes I'm scared for that day. What if I find that
and
the joy is

that's the thing. Do I want to be a ghost? Love by no one except the wind, or something more.. Sometimes, its strange because my heart draws me towards one side, and I become unsure of myself.

Onto the text

Love, hate, indifference.
Meekness, pride, false humility.
Self-improvement, balance, limitations.
Strength, weakness, indulgence.
More and more, I feel as if everything that I ever think about or ever have thought about is connected by a fine thread of acknowledgment and continuity.

There are so many things to talk about... What to talk about.. or write about.. I think one of the reasons why I use a blog is because I don't think many people will listen to what I have to say because sometimes it's useless, others irrelevant; and I have to get these thoughts off my chest. It's become more of a narcissistic thing, where I have to hear myself talk about the things I want to talk about, and not have any space of my thought bothered by other thoughts. Self-absorption? Maybe. It's unhealthy.

I suppose I think about the aspects of me which are not the best, and I try to change them, but more often then not its more than a will I need. Some parts of me are simply engrained into my personality, or burned into my emotions.

There are just some things that I just want to get into text for the sake of putting into text, and I want to hurry up and get it out so that I can focus on writing something beautiful.

that said, next.

Basis of human want or need is attention, attention found in terms of love, it's antithesis being indifference, lack of love leads to hate; hate is a weaker emotion because it is easier to indulge in and is about taking attention away from others to bring to yourself, whereas love is the act of giving attention. Thus those with strength are empowered to love, hate is for the mentally weak. Jealousy.

that said, next.

I'm not trying not to be prideful because some part of me stil says that I am better (that in itself indicates a false sense of pride) and I need something stronger like God to help me rid myself entirely of pride, because what I really am searching for is meekness. I can't do it alone because its sketched into the marrow of my bones.

next.

I wish I would spend the proper attention and time to actually write about those things said above... It's so rash and messy... I don't like it, but then again, I don't want to write about those things more. Too time consuming. Time to write something beautiful.

feelings

I'm tired... I want something more
but there's not much to grasp on to?
I feel like, something's missing
I want to live my life like a piece of literature
but I can't distort this reality
because that will take the meaning out of it
but inserting a meaning that isn't really there.
I'll admit, I don't have the best of luck
or the best talents or the best personality
or the best anything
but I hope that
I will succeed in what I do
and not be disturbed by other things
because success is difficult

But these days, more and more
All I want to do is have a conversation with someone I like
and just talk
and let this vent up feeling
inside my chest
out

Attention care and love become the basis of most people's wants
Is God not enough?
Why do I feel this way
so empty and hallow and resonant

Character&Pride

It's been impressed upon my character that I should act a given way when given a certain circumstance. More and more, I feel myself at fault for falling victim to my own personality. Shouldn't a person have sovereign control over his emotions and how he acts? After all, most people are fast to judge a person by the way he acts or the way his emotions flare up. So given this, do I just become a byproduct of my personality?

I hate falling victim to my personality. I think it's limiting to what I can do. I think a person should be able to mold into any given circumstance and expand his potential and limitations. Easier written out then done though. I would love to be in perfect control over my personality, but the reality is that sometimes it's outside of my control. Can I stop a fleeing feeling in my stomach, or rage, or sadness, or shyness? I suppose the most I can say I do is that I try.

And more and more I'm wondering what it means to let your pride deceive your heart. I feel this very often, and yet on the other hand sometimes I feel like I should have the pride to know when to stop and when to keep the sanctity of my composure. Letting "my pride deceive my mind" or heart has simply become a misnomer to equate myself with people that I would normally look down upon. But more and more, rather than coming to an equal standpoint, the other party's pride overwhelms ME and the balance become tilted the other way. I can't say that it's worse, but maybe equally bad.
