Sense in Identity
In the eternal and vast face of souls, we as individuals exist like stars in the galaxy, grains of sand on the beach of life. Can we as people really be able to distinguish one grain of sand from the other, can we judge its countenance, the rough callouses on its rocky surface, the vast mountains of glass and mineral entombed into a tiny speck of existence? To the subjective eye, we are so much more than what society categorizes us as, or so we think. All of this funnels down into the essential and basic argument of the question: "Who am I?". Our identity. By definition, identity is the condition to remain oneself; yet this begs the question oneself to who? The faces and dimensions of our existence are infinite, infinite to us and yet somehow finite to those that perceive us from a stationary viewpoint, which happens to be the vast majority of society. The world has a pivot point, and to the individual, that pivot point remains to be that individual.
Thus, we create our identity. A state of existence, confirmation that we matter to a certain extent. And this identity, of course, is seen by other identities. Yet the paradox remains this: the individual identities each being their own pivot point of the world, can only see their identity to exist in a multidimensional sense, where all other identities are one dimensional. So how does one find his or her identity? How much of the clothes we wear, the music we listen to, our personality, factored into our identity?
Ultimately, the individual bases his or her identity on the confirmation of others, and so our identity become our appearance. Appearance in personality, in judgement, in action; appearance in how we perceive the world. A facade we adorn so that we can be someone or something to society. In that matter of sense, we live our identity for others, other people, our deities, and to the briefest extent, ourselves. We are ourselves only because we have other people to confirm it. Would we exist, if nobody was there to tell us we exist?
